Hi,

I think this piece of writing is great and easy to read and so true!

I really agree with the fact that u shud associate good new habits with pleasurable feelings and bad habits with bad feelings.

I have applied that in my own life without realizing it and now i'm going to apply this theory to break free from bad habits. For instance, I feel bloated and guilty when i eat bad food sometimes and i have great pleasure in eating fruit and vege's. That's what's keeping me from gaining weight at the moment and it really has been a habit of mine for many years now.

Thanks for the tips!

I need help in changing a habit of mine and I am unable to do it, living is hell to me.

Can the author help me in changing my habit? I cannot do it as it involves fear. Please write to my email if you could help me in changing my habit.

Thanks,

Habits are hard to break and equally tough to form.

The problematic area is step 3:

"In this phase you need to change your intellectual need to change a bad habit into a good one, and add the emotional component."

The human mind doesn’t work that way. It’s programmed to preserve your safety and facilitate you desire to satisfy human needs.

So how does one “base jump”. How does Bear Grylls eat decaying sheep brains or drink his own pee?

These activities run counter to safe, normal, human activities. Do people who conduct such acts “change their intellectual need and add the emotional component”?

I think, like Indiana Jones, you must take the proverbial leap of faith. Or, as Nike likes to promote, “Just do it”?

Have you ever asked someone, “What would be your dream job?” Have you ever asked your spouse “What specific things give you the most pleasure, make you the most happy?”.

99 out of 100 people are not interested in establishing empowering habits, let alone mapping out their future for the next 20 years. In fact, they will get very defensive, even nasty.

“What’s the point, stupid?”…”I’m busy, now, may we talk about this later?”…”The problem is, I have bills to pay”…“Sorry, I live in the real world...”

The reality is this:

Everyone thinks similarly, share the same paradigms, strive to send their kids to the same universities, watch the same TV shows, etc…

Is it any wonder why you see so many fat asses in Walmart?

The hardest thing to do in life is think outside the box. Sadly, that’s exactly what you must do to form new habits.

Note: I quit a 25 year smoking habit, I do exercise 40 minutes everyday, I’ve drunk my own pee (accidently), and I have eaten a live tomato worm.
Now, I’m on my quest to doing my dream job. Hope it’s as easy as all the above!

Thank you for your well written blog, sir!

THanks. good article indeed. Do you perhaps know of any pc or blackberry software (other than habitmaster, not too good) for breaking AND building habits?

THanks,
