Getting in the habit of waking up early...that's easy. Have a kid or get a dog, neither will let you sleep in. After awhile you can't. Otherwise go back to the nite life and enjoy!

Thanks priscilla,

My article wasn't on blogging per se, and I was thinking more of Ben's recent post than your comment. Sorry if I didn't offer a hat tip. I guess you'll just have to give me something to write about from your own blog.

Thank you for another great article. This is actually exactly what I was looking for when I asked you to write an article on blogging. I guess I just didn't state it clearly enough. I hope you'll check out my new site at www.priscillapalmer.com every once in a while. I'll try to use these idea's to keep it original.

Gavin,

Although I have modified my sleep schedule in the past, I've reverted to my more normal sleeping habits of waking up 7-7:30 after coming to University. Given my current situation and environment, time later in the night is more valuable than early morning time so I shifted back to underlying patterns (it took a month or two)

I haven't written about waking up early (especially if seeming somewhat hypocritical if I no longer use such habits) simply because Steve did a pretty good job of it awhile back. I didn't have much insight to add to his incredibly popular post, so I didn't bother trying.

For the record I maintained the habit of waking up at 6 am for about a year and for awhile it was as early as 5:30 am. It is a great habit when your focus is on extreme productivity (my current focus is more on lateral growth where night hours have greater use). Steve's article is here if you want a read:

http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/05/how-to-become-an-early-riser/

My only tips from the experience is that you simply have to habituate it like anything else. It will be painful the first few wakeups but by the end of the thirty days it will seem normal. After several months it will seem more bizarre to actually wake up later. You can check my articles on habit forming if you want more information about how to change/form a habit:
