Actually Max, the book is halfway finished right now and I expect to be done the first draft by June. If you want my advice, start right away. The shortest distance between now and a goal is to start now.

Writing a book is one of the most difficult and yet rewarding things you can do. I congratulate you on starting a 300 page book. Thanks for posting a few responses to my comments. Its not often I get to talk to people on the Internet. the last time I responded on here to your articles was a month ago. As Ive said, the anime I planned on writing will instead be a book because I feel a book will get a wider audience. Its going to be quite a tragic story, about curses and the consequences of being born with them. i hope your book will get some following because many of your articles are very helpful and reassuring to what I already apply to my life or believe. good luck towards publishing it!

Rob,

Thanks for the info. For a number of reasons I'm going to start just by releasing the book on this website, but I'll definitely consider trying to do an actual book deal if popularity here continues to grow.

I've worked through lulu on several projects, and if you want to keep control of the project and see more of the money go into your pockets, I have nothing but good things to say about them and their service. They're a good choice, so big thumbs up.

But that said, your writing seems solid enough that I'm wondering why you are going that route. This is not a slam against self-publication by any stretch, but there are certain realities of distribution which are difficult to overcome. If your sole target market is to be viewers of this blog and people who accidentally stumble upon it at lulu (Love em, but their storefront is far from unified) then awesome, but that seems a limitation.

Now, for all that there are lots of good reasons I could see. That the book is being written for your sake, that the process of pitching it would be too onerous, that you actively support the POD aesthetic, that this is just a supplement to what you want to release as free content, maybe something else.

But at the end of the day, you've written some good stuff, and I think a book would be fantastic - I'll certainly pick it up - and it would certainly seem to merit at least consideration for traditional distribution, even if you pull a Godin and also release it for free.

Anyway, for all that, good luck with your book!
