My name is Christopher. I come from a Christian family. Way back, after finishing my schooling and when I was doing my Intermediate (junior college), I sensed a kind of emptiness in my heart. (This emptiness, which I later-on understood, was God’s way of drawing me to Himself). In my desperate attempts to solve this problem, I found myself bunking college and attending Christian meetings and visiting Christian bookshop with the hope of finding a solution. During one such visit to a Christian bookshop, I came across a small book-let titled; Tell me plainly, how to be saved. Through this book-let (written according to the Bible), I have understood that every human-being is a sinner and is bound to go to hell after one’s time on this planet-earth is over. But God’s great love for man-kind made Him send His only son, Jesus Christ, into this world. Jesus, who lived a sin-less life, suffered an account of our sins and died on the cross in our place. He rose again from death the third day and is now in the midst of us in the form of the Holy Spirit. Whoever believes in Him will become a child of God and will skip hell to enter heaven, the presence of the Almighty God.

The book-let went-on to say that the way of believing in Jesus Christ is by repenting of our sins and asking Jesus for forgiveness for our sins as only the blood of Jesus Christ has the power to cleanse us from every kind of sin. Then we should invite Jesus into our hearts. When I did all this, the emptiness in my heart left and the love, joy & peace which I never had till then filled my heart. Since then, the Lord has been wonderfully leading me and has never left me alone, as per His promise in the Bible for all those who come to him in faith. He gave a purpose for my living. Whatever I have been going through in life, I can say with all confidence, that there was never a time that I felt or was left helpless; this is so as one of the precious promises in the Bible says: “Even lions go hungry for lack of food, but those who obey the LORD lack nothing good.”

This is how the Lord has sought me, forgave my sins, made me His child, gave me a purpose for living, has been meeting all my needs and put His peace & joy in my heart that no person or experience or circumstance or problem can take it away.

It’s a Biblical fact that every person has a heart with a God-shaped vacuum and nothing can fill that vacuum, except God Himself. This is why we need to invite Jesus to come into our hearts after repenting of our sins.

The one decision I will never regret is, giving my heart to the Lord Jesus Christ. I hope and wish that you also will make a decision to make Jesus Christ your personal Lord and Savior. If so, please say this prayer meaningfully from your heart:

Lord Jesus Christ, I believe that you are the Almighty God. Thank you for suffering on the cross for my sake. I now repent of all my sins. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with your precious blood. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus and make me your child. From now on, I will read the Bible regularly and obey what it says. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

If you have made a decision to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, please let me know the good news. Thanks. May you know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

Scott, just read your article on creating your own religion. I don't subscribe to your way of thinking in this area. Although I read other philosopher's meaning of life, I believe strongly in the one true God and the Bible that is written by him, thru others. It is the one book I do not approach with an intellectual curiosity. Like anything else in life, it takes a "desire" to have a personal relationship with God, based on faith, which comes from absorbing knowledge from God's word; hearing the Word from the Bible, and putting into practicing that knowledge in our everyday life. Notwithstanding that, anyone can have an experience like Paul on the road to Damascus that changed his way of thinking about God. Also, my belief is that God gives each one of us a choice. Wanted to convey my personal views. However, your article was well written and well thought out as usual.

Great post, it does make you think. Personnaly i find that religion has divided us for various reasons and that there should just be one gobal religion with no suprime being or leader(every one is equal), with a moral code made from aspects of other religions, also everyone can answer the big question for themself(Exemple: What happens when I die)

Whether one believes in God or not; ever looked into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints? - otherwise known as Mormons - interesting thoughts that could contribute to the lives of anyone that has written on this post.

Infernoz,

Everywhere I used the word religion I could have used philosophy. Religion does serve some useful purposes, even though it can cause problems. I'm an atheist and I have never belonged to any religious organization, so perhaps I haven't felt the touch of a religious upbringing.

I plan on reading The God Delusion, but frankly the book would sort of be preaching to the choir. I've never believed in a supreme being. Any manifestation of God I see in humanity and the universe itself rather than a divine creator.

Wuss

You talk about religion as though it was some harmless fashion accessory without realising just how toxic it can be, even in those who don't consider themselves religious. Religion seems like just another word for Cult. with all the deserved negative connotations which go with it.

As for philosophy, a lot of it seems like justification for societies and cultures abuses. Try reading a bit of Marquis De Sade, he made some acute observations and not just about sex. Some occult and alternative psychology authors also shed light on how blinkered many people are.

You may want to read The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins to see the many dangers and childish ideas in religion and philosophy.

Scott Young,

Spirituality, Peace, Tranquility and Happiness require Slowness - they cannot exist in a fast world.

For most of its existence on earth the human species has done hard physical work. Mental work [desk job] has only come into existence in the last 100 years. The switch-over from physical work to desk job has transformed our minds and society drastically. Science and Technology has greatly increased the magnitude of Social chaos, War, Violence and Environmental Destruction.

In this context I want to post a part from my article which examines the impact of Speed, Overstimulation, Consumerism and Industrialization on our minds and environment. Please read.

The link between Mind and Social / Environmental-Issues.

The fast-paced, consumerist lifestyle of Industrial Society is causing exponential rise in psychological problems besides destroying the environment. All issues are interlinked. Our Minds cannot be peaceful when attention-spans are down to nanoseconds, microseconds and milliseconds. Our Minds cannot be peaceful if we destroy Nature.

Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment.

Subject : In a fast society slow emotions become extinct.
Subject : A thinking mind cannot feel.
Subject : Scientific/ Industrial/ Financial thinking destroys the planet.
Subject : Environment can never be saved as long as cities exist.

Emotion is what we experience during gaps in our thinking.

If there are no gaps there is no emotion.

Today people are thinking all the time and are mistaking thought (words/ language) for emotion.

When society switches-over from physical work (agriculture) to mental work (scientific/ industrial/ financial/ fast visuals/ fast words ) the speed of thinking keeps on accelerating and the gaps between thinking go on decreasing.

There comes a time when there are almost no gaps.

People become incapable of experiencing/ tolerating gaps.

Emotion ends.

Man becomes machine.

A society that speeds up mentally experiences every mental slowing-down as Depression / Anxiety.

A ( travelling )society that speeds up physically experiences every physical slowing-down as Depression / Anxiety.

A society that entertains itself daily experiences every non-entertaining moment as Depression / Anxiety.

Fast visuals/ words make slow emotions extinct.

Scientific/ Industrial/ Financial thinking destroys emotional circuits.

A fast (large) society cannot feel pain / remorse / empathy.

A fast (large) society will always be cruel to Animals/ Trees/ Air/ Water/ Land and to Itself.
