Nice article. It is very appropriate for the business world; however, for life in general, I’d add two:

learn to cook at least one or two meals (not snacks or frozen dinners)
how to wash your own laundry

Sad to say, but I know quite a few people who can’t do those things, and you will be at the mercy of others until you can do them…

I realize you can learn those things by developing the skills listed, but some of the skills are really ways of looking at things…why not work on those points of view by fixing supper or washing your socks? Not glorious by any means, but need to know for most of the world.

Hi Scott,

I was doing research for an essay and came across your blog. I am interested to find out if the “Skill everyone should have” article is your personal contribution, or did you find it somewhere else? I ask this because I found the same article published under someone else’s name. If I had to cite where I found it, I would not know.

Scott,

I really enjoyed this post. I think you hit the hammer right on the nail.

If I could add one thing to this is it would be lifetime learning. This would include learning all the things that you posted. But also learning something new in your profession. Always progressing at what you have chosen as your career and striving to be the best in your world.

I would also like to ask more about goal setting as this is a topic that I have a tough time with. There are so many things that I want to do better at it’s hard to focus on one of them. And if I do focus on one, which one is the most important at the time.

What have you learned and what would you recommend for how to set and achieve goals. The more in depth on this subject the better. Thanks
