From the Web

Extreme Entrepreneurship [1] – Yesterday I got a chance to talk with Michael Simmons, co-founder of Extreme Entrepreneurship. A fascinating guy, he started his first company when he was 16 and now speaks around the country about entrepreneurship. Check out his blog here [2].

You: The Science Experiment [3] – My Thursday Lifehack contribution.

How to Live Mini-Adventures on a Small Budget [4] – Tuesday’s addition by yours truly.

From the Shelf

The Black Swan [6] – I had mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand I believe the core ideas about epistemology and our failure to predict are incredibly important. On the other hand I felt much of the attack was on specific economic tools of which I have no expertise to judge. I also believed his continuous sarcasm and random jibes at the French were unwarranted.

Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s conclusion is less important than the founding ideas that lead to them. He ends the book talking about placing yourself in line for “positive Black Swans” which I found somewhat illogical considering he ranted for the first 200 pages about the extent of our uncertainty. Some of the specific applications of these ideas I found questionable.

That said, I believe the major points of the book are incredibly important. And for that reason, I’d recommend reading the book despite the somewhat irritating writing style of Taleb.

In Other News…

I’m heading back to University this weekend. I should be able to post another article on Monday, but I’m going to be offline for a few days during the move.

With an authority (incoming links in the last 6 months) of 609, this blog is now in the Technorati Top 5k. Nothing spectacular, I know, but a small emotional reward nonetheless.
