20% is a nice idea. I doubt you have kids, a spouse, a full-time job, a house to maintain, or a yard to mow. Although I mostly like all of these things, I suppose I could give all of that up and go live in a box somewhere. 20% of my true leisure time is about 3 minutes a day. It is a good point that I should use that time to network or look outside the box.

I've been shoved out of my comfort zone most of the day at work, though, so i am feeling a little cranky about your ideas. Seeking randomness is a good idea at times, but the randomness I am running into that other people like so much is stressing me out. What I need is a little less random and a little more focus.

Your idea is fantastic, but not always so practical for all of us. I find comfort in my tiny little comfortable box away from random craziness and the screwups it sometimes (by sometimes, I mean usually) creates. Any suggestions for those of us who are required to put random back in its proper place in order to forge ahead and get something done/complete/finished?

I choose to be busy, but I choose to accomplish many things. I would love to sit and daydream.... oh shoot, that was my 3 minutes.

Again - still cranky about not being back in my safe little box.

Nice post, Scott. There are many times I've used "busyness" as an excuse to put off doing something I don't feel like doing. The 20% rule sounds like a fantastic idea, will try to do something with it right now :)

Great Post Scott, I agree with you fully and I'm guilty of it myself to be totally honest.

It's just another one of those self-deceptive habits that we use to avoid the unknown. It's just like when you 'think' about something so long that it passes and sometimes even beyond that. The thing about those are that thinking or waiting until you have time is still not action, just the avoidance of it.

The only thing we really can do is just to take a leap of faith and run with it. Oddly it gets easier and easier once you get into the routine of acting when confronted with a challange. Guess, it's a replacement habit for those counter-productive ones...
