Free writing, by writing down everything you think of in 5 minutes or 15 minutes can be helpful. It forces you to get all your ideas on paper quickly--so its a productivity hack too.

If that tactic doesn't work I find that reading, listening to music, or watching an inspiring movie spurs creativity and innovation. Flipping through a magazine or looking at art or photography can have similar effects. Finally, I find that when I think of the metaphors involved or looking for comparisons that my creative juices usually get flowing.

Good write up.
I like to use "hats" to switch perspective.
One hat is possibility ("how could this work?"), another Devil's advocate ("why won't this work?"), and another is feeling ("what's your gut say?") and another is facts/figures ("what's the data say?")

Phil,

Not sure whether I agree with you, although I haven't done much research. I don't think pot is nearly as bad as many hard drugs (probably comparable to smoking cigarettes or drinking), but I haven't heard many positive benefits.

Smoke pot. For the same reason it causes people to sometimes forget what they were just talking about, it has been observed that while under the influence of cannabis, the brain, instead of taking the direct route between two pieces of information, takes a more roundabout way of connecting the two pieces of information, which is why people sometimes forget what they were just talking about.

Also, it was made illegal not because it was dangerous, but because of the many industries that commercial hemp would have leveled, had it been allowed to compete. And it also gave Uncle Sam an excuse to stuff his prisons with minorities. (The United States has, by far, more prisoners per capita than any other nation in the world, mostly for non-violent 'possession of narcotics' charges.)

Look up and purchase the following books, all available now from half.com:
The Marijuana Conviction
Marijuana Myths, Marijuana Facts
The Emperor Wears No Clothes (Complete Historical Reference to Cannabis and the Conspiracy Against 'Marijuana')
Race to Incarcerate: The Sentencing Project

Also, below you can read the research leading up to the publication of 'The Marijuana Conviction' in 1974, written by two University of Virginia law professors after researching the history behind cannabis prohibition:

The History of the Non-Medical Use of Drugs in the United States: A Speech to the California Judges Association 1995 annual conference
http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/History/whiteb1.htm

Legal History of American Marijuana Prohibition
