Just leaving a big thanks for an inspirational post. Indeed you give a great new angle of perspective to self dicipline here, just when I really did need both a little boost and guiding, during changes and setteling of a new period, and a new life situation for me. That aside I got to agree, viewing self dicipline as either the depletable fuel to get things done, or perhaps the "booster" to give you that last but needed push, to overcome the obstacle sounds quite like a better picture of sel'f dicipline. So again: Great post and many thanks for sharing!

Will,

Actually those comments are called pingbacks. They are references to other websites that have commented on this post through their blog. If you click on the links, you can see what other bloggers are saying about this post (or referencing it elsewhere).

Check out my post on motivation catalysts for "activation energy". Just do a search in the sidebar and it should pop up.

Hi Scott,
firstly, I like the fresh angle you gave on the subject. The critical time period was well stated with some good personal examples. Instead of giving an example of a critical period for some activity, I will instead say that your comments on 'fuel' could also use the term 'activation energy'. Taking that first step is the hardest part in over-coming a natural porpensity to procrastinate and people's motivation for taking it decreases after they have expended energy on other tasks. Learn to create the activation energy and the critical period becomes easier to handle.

P.s. the last four comments are spam, I get them all the time. Not sure from an SEO perspective that you want your blog to point to those sites.

Thanks Scott. I really like this article.
