Good article, as always. I use the words qualitative (opportunity-bound) and quantitative (effort-bond) myself, though. Qualitative is the ship's rudder, quantitative is the wind in the sails.

Shilpan,

Sorry about that, looks like my browser was malfunctioning. Good post, a great recap of the classic self-improvement topics.

Best,
-Scott

Scott,

Thanks for your perspective. I call "opportunists" - Creators and "Efforts" - Competitor. Opportunists try to carve unique idea that has yet to be capitalized while efforts take you to a safe lane of proven practices with somewhat known result.

I have article http://www.successsoul.com/2008/02/21/transforming-dreams-into-reality/

I would love to have your comment on that article. I just joined your blog.

Thanks

Shilpan,

That's why I tried to frame the difference as "Effort" Versus "Effort PLUS Something Else". Effort is always going to be required. The distinction is that when you're in an area that relies on opportunities, it isn't going to be the limiting factor.

When starting a business, most entrepreneurs know how to work hard. Effort isn't the problem. It's finding the right opportunities that counts.

Scott,

It's still bit confusing. Let me tell you why. In business, I've walked unknown path, which you can call "opportunity", yet every opportunity required an extent of effort as well. I had to map out IF i do this, I predict that will happen etc. In other words, even with clear opportunity, some form of effort is required.

I would love to get your feedback on this.
