Ideally, your relationship should motivate you to improve yourself, to keep the relationship alive and strong. I work out solely now because I want to look good for my girl, and have better stamina for--uh, our stimulating dinner conversations ;)

The better I feel about myself, the better I feel about being the guy she wants to be with!

On similar lines of the itchy chair theme, I find I work best when dressed in business clothes (a smart, dark coloured suit, with simple shirt) and shoes, hair tidy, make-up applied (though I guess you'd want to skip the make-up bit ;)). This style of dress isn't what I find particularly comfortable, but it makes me feel more upright, alert, professional, clear thinking etc. In my natural state, I'm more at home in sweaters, yoga pants, slippers, hair messy, no make-up etc. which makes me feel comfortable and happy, ready for leisure, fitness or personal development (journaling etc.) but doesn't make me feel at all like working.

I discovered this when I worked from home for a while and found that my "working in PJs on the sofa" days were my most unproductive, as opposed to when I got dressed and sat in my office. So I guess some of us need a little discomfort as a motivational factor.

Hey Scott -

I think there's a lot to be said for making time for work and making time for play. While you can bring an element of play to your work, I find the best pattern for results and enjoyment comes from focused intensity. Work hard and play hard.
