Valentino,

Although it rarely works out this way, I always try to show my failings along side my accomplishments. I don't want to appear to be the fake person who's happy all the time or never slips up. However, since I try to keep 95% of my writing about the ideas and not about myself, this is often tricky to do in practice.

But I fail just as much as everyone else, and I'm learning just as much as I give advice. The one thing I enjoy about blogging is that it's a more human medium than most books and public speakers.

Great article Scott! Seth Godin echoes many of these points in his novel, "The Dip".

I was in a slump last week. We had lost a client, the new home page was slow on the redesign, and my family was in financial trouble. I felt helpless.

Then all of a sudden, my girlfriend tells me, "Jun, sitting around moping about it isn't gonna change anything. If you don't do anything about it, no one else is going to do it for you." That was just the kick in the rear I needed.

Great post. Look forward to staying in touch

hey.. I think it should be really hard to do your job.. because it's like you can never feel down or sad without feeling guilty, or inadequate, because, hey, you are teaching other to be better... I know it's not that way, but sure it's easy to think so..

if you feel in a slump (and I'm quite an expert of slumps) my advice is: talk with someone who care about you, and respect your feeling.. sometimes sharing it's enought to feel better.. and, accept the fact that you deserve the right to feel bad.. just sometimes, of course ; )

Hi, Scott,
First time commenter. Really like your writing. Great article. One thing you didn't mention that I find often really helpful is to connect to something that re-ignites my passion for what I'm doing. Often it's something similar to what I'm doing (like a book similar to the one I'm writing) that gives me that kick you describe.
