Love it! No offense meant, the old design was an eye sore. This one is modern, sleek, and up to date. It's similar enough not to make the reader feel they've arrived in an alien space, and new enough to make me nod with approval =D

Scott,

I like the new design a lot! I really like the idea of the full-width header and the partial-width content -- when I do partial-width sites, I usually make the header partial-width too. I'll have to swipe this idea for my design. ;) I have to agree with Niko, though, the green bar is too tall and pushes an awful lot of the content below the fold. Perhaps you could improve the trade-off by finding a way to fit the same information in less vertical space?

Overall, a nice look!

Very nice, Scott. Much nicer than your old design (which was good enough). I think I'll invest in a custom design one day...

Amity,

No, I knew a bit before two years. But there's always a million projects I should be spending my money on/pursuing, and it wasn't until recently I finally fixed it.

Niko,

True, this design pushes the content down slightly. But, as most of my regular readers reach this blog via RSS or email, I wanted the design to be as friendly as possible to new readers. Which means clearly explaining what the website is about to see if they'd be interested in reading more than just the article they stumbled upon.

All design is about maximizing tradeoffs.

Thanks everyone!

Hi Scott,

I've been reading your blog for couple of months and the new design looks very good.
Well structured, balanced, simple layout.
Definitely a step in right direction.
Keep with the good work.

Looking forward to more good stuff.

Cheers Lukas.

Hi Scott,

I was very satisfied with your previous design and never really understood why it should be so ugly. :) The article was in the center, eye-catcher, the backround was not too bright, there were no distractions. This design is not much different, and I espesicially enjoy the "popular posts by categories". But just now I became aware of a (little?) disadvantage: the space on the top for "get mor from life: over 700...." is quite huge now. So one has to scroll down every time immediately, visiting the website. This thing may seem unimportant but small stuff like this could be quite annoying in the long run.
Think about it :)

I will be happy to read another 700 posts, go for it!
