The most important thing i think when cooking food is to make sure you have reputable pans. It's well worth spending a bit more to have decent suacepans and knives.

Nice post. Fear is a bugger to control and I like how you've pointed it out. Trademarked or not - feel the fear and do it anyway is the right course of action. :)

Aley,

As much as I hate lawyerese and as much as I disrespect Susan Jeffers for trademarking the use of that phrase, I am actually using it to refer specifically to Jeffers' work, so I'm not appropriating the trademark.

Just as if I made a reference to Coca Cola (also a trademark) in a post, that would only be a violation if I were using the name Coca Cola to refer to something else, such as my own product.

Scott,

be careful:

The phrase, "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway®", is Susan Jeffer's registered trademark. If you wish to use this phrase for any purpose whatsoever, you are legally required to seek permission from Susan Jeffer.

Timing for this post could not have been better... in the wrong point of view. I just skipped an exam in fear of how bad I would feel if I fail it!
Sincerely, not going to the test has been one of the worst decisions I have ever made.
When fear begins to drag you down it is imperative to fight back. I am not talking about terrorism, I am talking on crushing your chances and hopes.
Get to work everyday, do not fool yourself with bad thoughts and understand that failure is part of the game is my new mantra.

While I was reading I had a thought.

Fear is something that you feel some tension, take a chance, and either succeed or fail. If you fail we are taught to get back up, brush ourselves off and take another try. To stay down is failure. To get back up and try again, well that's success. That's what we are told anyway.

So, here is what I was thinking. Taking a chance on a new dish in the kitchen and not doing a good job could be considered a failure. It certainly is something you could recover from and try again, thus it's not truly a failure.

Other things, like creating a business, borrowing millions of dollars, or mortgaging everything in hope of becoming something bigger and better is a splended risk. To fail at that is hard to recover from. Not that you can't, it just seems more devastating. It goes beyond failure in my mind to the thought of complete disaster.

What I am saying is it's the level of risk that will cause you take a risk, possibly fail, and help you decide to try again or not. A large risk may turn into a disaster and a small risk is only a failure. That is unless you try again.
