I like to read a lot of books. But, if you’re like me, you often find that you read a book that sparks a lot of interesting ideas, hoping to discuss it with your friends, and find that you can’t find many people who have read the same books as you. That’s why I’m starting a book club.<\/p>\n

Every month I’ll pick a new book. My goal is to pick mostly interesting non-fiction with thought-provoking ideas.<\/p>\n

Anyone is free to buy or borrow the book and read it throughout the month. During the month of the book, we’ll be hosting discussion about the book and the ideas it raises on our Facebook group<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the end of the month, I’ll be inviting a friend who has also read the book to record a conversation with me. We’ll summarize the book (for those who couldn’t finish it) and then discuss whether we agreed with the ideas of the book as well as any interesting implications we think it might have.<\/p>\n

This Month: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance<\/h2>\n

We’re kicking the book club off with a favorite of mine which I had read years ago, and wanted to re-read again: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance<\/a>\"\". Although technically fiction, this book became a bestseller for its philosophical probe into the way to live and think.<\/p>\n

If you’d like to join the book club for June, here’s what you need to do:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Get the book<\/a>\"\".<\/strong> You can get it for Kindle on your iPhone, pick it up at a bookstore, or have it shipped to you.<\/li>\n
  2. Join the discussion group<\/a>.<\/strong> We’ll manage all public discussion of the book via our Facebook group. There will be spoilers here, so you may want to read the book fully first if you don’t want your opinion of it influenced by others before starting (in the future, we’ll mostly be picking books that are non-fiction, thus limiting the role of spoilers).<\/li>\n
  3. Read the book!<\/strong> Set yourself a goal to read a certain number of pages per day, or just try to read a little bit at a time and see how far you go.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
