{"id":8139,"date":"2018-12-27T10:58:33","date_gmt":"2018-12-27T17:58:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scotthyoung.com\/blog\/?p=8139"},"modified":"2018-12-14T10:31:30","modified_gmt":"2018-12-14T17:31:30","slug":"success-is-boring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scotthyoung.com\/blog\/2018\/12\/27\/success-is-boring\/","title":{"rendered":"Success is Boring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Success isn\u2019t money, a beautiful spouse or a great body. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s waking up early and running <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotthyoung.com\/blog\/2018\/08\/14\/on-keeping-your-word\/\">because you said you would<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s working on that project to learn Python, in your spare time, when you\u2019d rather relax and watch television.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s reading books on investing. And then, figuring out how to set up automatic savings in your bank. And maybe having that phone call with the bank, when you can\u2019t figure out their website. And putting away money every month. And not spending it. And waiting. For years.<\/p>\n<p>Our lives become the patterns we condition. Except <em>enjoying<\/em> success isn\u2019t the pattern you need to reinforce.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, you need to train yourself to love the work. The boring stuff, which doesn\u2019t feel exciting or thrilling or really like much at all. It\u2019s not reaching the mountaintop or slaying the dragon, but putting one foot in front of the other, day after day.<\/p>\n<p>If you can learn to love this, then success will come, but it won\u2019t matter so much. What you\u2019ll enjoy aren\u2019t the rewards, but becoming a better version of yourself.
