In particular, I decided to try to tackle <a href=\"https:\/\/ocw.mit.edu\/courses\/physics\/8-04-quantum-physics-i-spring-2013\/\">MIT&#8217;s 8.04 &#8211; Quantum Physics I<\/a>, similarly to how I tackled other MIT classes during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotthyoung.com\/blog\/myprojects\/mit-challenge-2\/\">MIT Challenge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As an experiment, I decided to try livestreaming the entire project. Every lecture I watch, problem set I do, Feynman Technique I try and frustration I encounter is all happening live on camera:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/videoseries?list=PLRIIhqJsaIigUIr7VAfz_6FrvWoA7hauL\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How the First Week Went<\/h2>\n<p>In terms of the class content itself, the first week went fairly well. There are 24 lectures and 10 problem sets. By the end of the first week, I have gotten through the first 10 lectures and 4 problem sets.<\/p>\n<p>The pace, however, shouldn&#8217;t imply I&#8217;ve been finding the class easy. Most of the problem set questions have stumped me without getting hints back-and-forth from the solutions, so it&#8217;s clear there&#8217;s still a lot of work to be done.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, my prerequisite classes are either missing (I didn&#8217;t do <a href=\"https:\/\/ocw.mit.edu\/courses\/physics\/8-03sc-physics-iii-vibrations-and-waves-fall-2016\/\">8.03<\/a>) or rusty (I did do <a href=\"https:\/\/ocw.mit.edu\/courses\/physics\/8-01sc-classical-mechanics-fall-2016\/\">8.01<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ocw.mit.edu\/courses\/physics\/8-02-physics-ii-electricity-and-magnetism-spring-2007\/\">8.02<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ocw.mit.edu\/courses\/mathematics\/18-01sc-single-variable-calculus-fall-2010\/\">18.01<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ocw.mit.edu\/courses\/mathematics\/18-02-multivariable-calculus-fall-2007\/\">18.02<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ocw.mit.edu\/courses\/mathematics\/18-03-differential-equations-spring-2010\/\">18.03<\/a>, but almost eight years ago). So there&#8217;s be a simultaneous difficulty of managing the hard QM content, along with refamiliarizing myself with a lot of hard math techniques.<\/p>\n<p>Despite those difficulties, I still think I&#8217;ll make good progress towards my eventual goal (a strong intuition about the basics of QM) by the end of the month.<\/p>\n<p>While the class itself has had ups and downs, livestreaming has been much easier than I thought it would be. Part of the motivation for doing this project was to test out the process of livestreaming a challenge where I understand the learning process fairly well.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">My Progress So Far&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p>Day One<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Started out by <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/_z_EsLt56HE?list=PLRIIhqJsaIigUIr7VAfz_6FrvWoA7hauL&amp;t=3566\">reviewing the first four problem sets<\/a> (prior to doing any lectures).<\/li>\n<li>Spent the rest of the day doing watching lectures. (Up to lecture 3)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/VQE_F3Euzg8?list=PLRIIhqJsaIigUIr7VAfz_6FrvWoA7hauL&amp;t=10549\">End-of-day debrief<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Day Two<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Spent the whole day (<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/g9vKlmUSNtc?list=PLRIIhqJsaIigUIr7VAfz_6FrvWoA7hauL\">morning<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FKuRiO-Xz1A&amp;list=PLRIIhqJsaIigUIr7VAfz_6FrvWoA7hauL&amp;index=4\">afternoon<\/a>) watching lectures. (Up to lecture 8).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Day Three<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Spent <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/0O5lEtmyEv8?list=PLRIIhqJsaIigUIr7VAfz_6FrvWoA7hauL\">morning<\/a> to finish up to lecture 10.<\/li>\n<li>Spent <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/s-SdAOzoeNM?list=PLRIIhqJsaIigUIr7VAfz_6FrvWoA7hauL\">afternoon<\/a> working on problem set one.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Day Four<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Finished up to end of problem set two.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Day Five<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Finished up to beginning of problem set five.<\/li>\n<li>Used the Feynman Technique on <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/YxYtS5lCv1Q?list=PLRIIhqJsaIigUIr7VAfz_6FrvWoA7hauL&amp;t=12638\">understanding group and phase velocity<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last Monday, I announced a new ultralearning project: trying to get a good grasp of the physics behind quantum mechanics.
