Update on my 30-Day Trial

—

The Jenga Theory of Motivation

Remember the game Jenga? It’s the game with the stack of wooden
blocks, where you had to take them out without the whole structure
falling over.

And if you did, people would yell “Jenga!” and then you’d clean up
the mess and go back to whatever other fad people did in the 90’s.

Well that game taught me a lot about motivation.

Or, to put it another way–don’t take out more than one piece at a
time!

The whole point of the game was to keep the structure standing.
That’s actually a lot like learning any new habit or skill, or
making a new commitment to a goal. You want to make progress, but
you also want to keep the structure standing.

That’s why I suggest making easy, manageable trials. Thirty minutes
of work per day, every day.

More than that and people will start yelling “Jenga!” when your
over-ambitious self tries to take off three or four pieces at once.

—

There’s still time to make your 30-Day Trial!

I know a lot of people have been getting these emails and still
haven’t committed themselves to a 30-Day Trial. Well there is still
time to start and take advantage of your membership!

If you have started–congratulations! Why not take your trial to
a new level and go from basics to mastery?

If you haven’t yet, you can still write about your trial in the
forums:

https://scotthyoung.com/members/?page_id=10

—

For those of you who want some examples of seeing the tactics and
training efforts in practice, you can take a look at a trial I
documented for Learning on Steroids covering several different
techniques for learning vocabulary.

The trial was an interesting experiment because it reinforced one
of the golden rules in this program: things won’t work out exactly
how you expect them to.

Some of the tactics I tried were remarkably effective. Others were
worse than useless. The point is that I got to try out some new
methods and now have more tools in my arsenal for learning new
languages.

http://bit.ly/bRaXyG

Hey, In this email: 1.
