New Design is Up

The new site design is up and ready. After a few agonizing hours tweaking the design so it should work both in Firefox AND Internet Explorer, I believe I’ve gotten all the kinks out.

The main layout of the website is effectively the same, sidebar to the right, navigation on the top. But I believe the new theme makes a bigger impact than the last one. I’ve simplified the navigation to maintain only crucial elements and I’ve added some personal touches.

Come check it out and tell me what you think!

    I like it a lot better. ๐Ÿ™‚

sidebar to the left? Your left? My left?
Did it change since the post was written or is left a typo for erm… right? ๐Ÿ˜‰
I like the layout and the colors in spite of the missing left sidebar ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m web-dyslexic apparently. That’s what I get for hastily posting! Thanks.

    Great design.

It’s not working in Opera though (for me, at least).

I feel that the previous one was better. In my opinion the bright colours you have applied to the blog may draw a reader’s attetntion away from the content too much. That was my personal sensation the very moment the site was loaded. Reading your text I was attracted by the sidebars which is definetly more emphasised than the text you wrote. Maybe it is the question of getting used to it :).

    Thanks for your comments.

Could you send me an e-mail ( ) with a picture of the incorrect page error? It would be a huge help solving the problem. Making the page work in all browsers is never an easy task.

This design is considerably more vibrant than my past one. As for the sidebar, part of the increased attention draw is intentional. I’m hoping it will make subscription more noticeable and draw people to areas of the website they might have otherwise missed (Popular Posts, etc.)

I’ve also tried to declutter the headline so people who come here through social media sites (Stumble, Digg) or a random link will immediately know the topic.

But I’ll be tweaking in the coming weeks…

If you want to get it right in Opera too, I don’t think you can avoid to install this browser yourself: A screen shot isn’t going to help much, because you can’t check whether your fix is working.

And while you’re at it, you should probably test in Safari too. A Windows port is also available:

Yes, webdesign is tricky business. That’s why I stay as far from it as I can.

    Thanks Thomas!

I believe I’ve solved all the major problems. Looks like a rogue

tag was causing a problem in Opera and a missing

was causing the misplaced graphic in Safari. I’m going to tweak out a few display issues but the design should be stable now.

Let me know if you find any new issues.

well.. to be honest… I didn’t like the color combo…. better than before but still… it’s not giving the feeling of “WOW” …. wow impact is missing somewhere…. i don’t know why…

Scott, I’m a minimalist fan and I’m glad that you’ve adopted a slightly less bulky design. It loads much faster and it’s cool that you’ve upgraded your photo … adds to the entire personality of the site. However, I’m not sure if it’s my browser (I’m using firefox, btw) but the colours mix looked a little bit too contrasting. Grey’s a classic colour so you may want to try hues of pastel pink, white or blue to ease the colour effect on the eyes. With that, I’m sure it’ll complement your excellent content much better ๐Ÿ™‚

    Cheers, Ellesse

    Thanks for your comments.

I’ve received pretty mixed feedback over the last few days. So I might just have to wait and see.

I think its just a beautiful design.
    (with Fireworks?)
but maybe its better to also put the basis links in the footer
    e.g. like this:
    Home |Blog | Archives | Get more | Subscribe | Contact

I like the new design. Just curious, what software you use for your blogging platform? Is this a completely customized template made from scratch … I like its minimalist appeal?

WordPress. The site design is based of the Ocadia structure I used to have by Beccary. I redid everything but the two column structure was maintained because I had no intentions of reinventing the wheel.

    Thanks for the pointer Ruben.
